K42 Adventure Marathon

Grantham Running Club’s Paul Rushworth (picture enclosed) continued his running tour through South America with this mountain epic in Chile last Saturday. In a straight climb of over 7,200’ to the summit Paul had to cope with his fingers swelling as well as the lower oxygen levels at altitude. Despite this he finished in 28^th place in the full marathon in a time of 4:49:38

East Coast Classic 10k

This coastal race along the seafront at Mablethorpe attracted GRC runners Catherine Payne and Robert McArdle. Catherine was rewarded for her trip to the coast with a personal best of 42:40 and first prize in her age category with Robert McArdle claiming a season’s best of 45:28

Newark parkrun #68,

Grantham Running Club had the first male and female finishers at Newark parkrun #68 on Saturday 13th September. As part of an 18 mile long training run, GRC's Matthew Kingston-Lee worked his way to the front of the field approximately five minutes into the five km timed run. He pulled away to come home in 17:58, six seconds outside his course PB and 40 seconds ahead of the second placed finisher.  Finishing first lady, Penny Hodges bettered her old PB set in August by three seconds, clocking 22:23. Further down the field, Louise and Nick Payne made a family occasion of it with their daughter coming home well outside their bests in 38:00 and 38:01 respectively.

Kings Lynn parkrun event #157

Warren Stark of GRC set a new fastest time for this distance with his first visit to the Kings Lynn event with a time of 21:12

Grimsthorpe 10k and parkrun

Grimsthorpe 10k

There were some great performances by Grantham Running Club’s athletes on this tough off road course round the undulating grounds of Grimsthorpe Castle which was made even tougher by the Bank Holiday weather. Stuart Sinclair was first home for the club closely followed by Abi Schofield who finished as forth lady.

Warren set his second personal best time on this course in two weeks with Andrew MacAllister also having a good run.

Parkrun Wanstead

GRC’s veteran runner Rob Howbrook went sub 20 minutes for the first time on Saturday’s parkrun at Wanstead in a time of 19:43.

Sleaford 10k

A dozen athletes from Grantham Running Club were attracted to this relaxed rural run from the village of Scredington along the quiet lanes to Burton Pedwardine and back. On an evening when the conditions were ideal for running there were nine personal bests as the group were led home by Andrew Pask going sub 40 minutes for the first time. Holly Durham took the medal for third lady and Rob Howbrook finished first in his age category. The enclosed photograph show the GRC runners in the green vests in the early part of the race

Bassingham Bash 5 mile Road Race

There were three runners from GRC taking part in this fast flat rural race which was part of the Bassingham Village Gala. Ruth Dunston was first Grantham finisher in 40:17, with Nikki Carr not far behind in 43:55 and Brendon Buckley completing the course in 50:38

Sherwood Pines 10k

Stephanie Massingham enjoyed a great run on the trail through Sherwood Forest to finish in a time of 59:35

Newark Parkrun

Holly Durham broke her own course record for her age group for the second week in a row as she finished first lady again with her sister Penny finishing as second lady. There were three other PB's with Warren, Gwenda and Louise improving on previous attempts. Full GRC results

Grantham Running Club picked up two of the prizes at the 27^th Notfast 10k race from Newark Rugby Ground, Catherine Payne (pictured left) won the shield for first lady and Penny Hodges (pictured left) won the prize for first female veteran.

Bushy 10k

Andrew Pask lowered his PB by almost 90 seconds over this course round Orton in Peterborough and was closely followed by Abi Schofield also enjoying a great season who was third lady to cross the line. Another GRC member in good form, Yvonne Taylor set a season’s best. Full results;

Whissendine 6

Two GRC runners made the short trip to Rutland to take part in this six mile road race on an undulating course round Stapleford Park. Dean Riggall finished in the top 25 with a time of 41:19 with teammate Gwenda Williams finishing in 59:10

Parkrun Newark

In this week’s Parkrun both of GRC’s men gave good accounts of themselves with Rob Howbrook finishing just a few seconds outside his already impressive PB in 20:59 and Andrew MacAllister setting a new best time of 25:15

Bushy 10k

Here is a photo of GRC's Andrew Pask with his sister Louise at the Bushy 10k on Sunday. Welsh born Andrew came to Grantham with the RAF and found inspiration to run his best ever time on Sunday from the visit from his elder sister seen here wearing the colours of the Islwyn club from his native Wales.

Machu Picchu Trail and Thurlby 10k

Machu Picchu Trail

Grantham Running Club's Paul Rushworth started the first leg of his world tour with a high altitude run in Peru along the Inca Trail, to reduce the nausea Paul had to chew coco leaves to keep him going through the higher passes. The next stop on his trip is the Colca Canyon in the South of the country for an attempt at the course record.

Thurlby 10k

 

GRC's Catherine Payne picked up the medal as third lady in this 10k race in South Lincolnshire in a time of 43:52 with teammate Robert McArdle finishing in 46:59

Notts 10 Mile Road Race

In the early evening sunshine at the Holme Pierrepont National Watersports Centre in Nottingham Andrew Pask set a Personal Best time as he led the Grantham Running Club runners on this two lap race round the rowing lakes. There were impressive debuts at this distance by Andrew Spencer and Marc Tremain. With an off road ultra in the Peak District looming next week both Paul Rushworth and Ben Mason eased back on the pace in preparation but still posted respectable times

Newark Parkrun

12 hours after completing the Notts 10 GRC runners Marc Tremain and Lucy Roberts joined their teammates for the Saturday morning Parkrun in a torrential downpour. Despite the tricky conditions there were PB's for the club's first male and female runners with both Stuart in 20:22 and Abi in 21:25 taking exactly one second off their previous marks! Performance of the day was from Kevin Baker who despite being held up on the way to the event started late and overtook 190 runners on his way to the finish. Full GRC results below;

Woodhall Spa 10k

First home of the ten Grantham Running Club Runners taking part in the Woodhall was Iain Brown lest than a week after setting a personal best at the Liverpool Marathon. He was followed by Rob Howbrook who recorded his fastest ever 10k time on a road course with Stuart Sinclair following up his Parkrun PB the previous day with fine performance as third man home. There was an outstanding performance by Louise Payne also running less than a week after her full marathon debut in Edinburgh and claiming her fastest 10k time yet. The attached photo shows Brendon Buckley in his first full season with the club setting of with his partner Yvonne Taylor at the start of the race.

Newark Parkrun

Stuart Sinclair new PB at the Newark Parkrun was the second fastest ever by a GRC runner at this event, there was another improved performance by Mark Hillson reducing his time for the second week in a row by some 30 seconds with Suzanne Britz making her Parkrun debut.

Deeping Rotary 10k

 

Deeping Rotary 10k

Workmates Chris England and Paul Rushworth teamed up to enter the Deeping St James 10k race in aid of local charities, despite being run on the hottest day of the year so far Paul managed to finish 27th in a time of 40:53 with Chris struggling in the heat from 6k onwards to finish in 60:45

Liverpool Marathon

One a course ill-suited to fast times with too many twists and turns which seemed more interested in taking in the landmarks than helping the runners get into their stride GRC’s Iain Brown managed to record a personal best crossing the line in a time of 3:22:29

Parkrun Newark

In this week’s Newark Parkrun Mark Hillson set another PB with a time of 22:32 just in front of first time Mark Wilson who clocked 22:47
