Peterborough 5k Grand Prix Series: Round Three Thorney

Eight of Grantham Running Club’s athletes made the trip down to Ferry Meadows to take part in round three of the Peterborough Grand Prix Series hosted by Thorney RC. On a delightful if slightly warm evening the GRC contingent took advantage of the fast full circuit course to post some great times including thee personal bests.

PB for Sam
First home for the club was Peter Bonner in 18:56, it is a mark of how much he has improved over the last 18 months that he can be slightly disappointed with going sub 19! Next home was Rob Howbrook with his 5th straight age category win at 5k this season beating the best both Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire have to offer. The first of the runners with a PB was Sam Dodwell slicing 14 seconds off the previous mark to clock 20:34 to continue a great season of bests.

First woman to finish for GRC was Catherine Payne is a Season’s Best of 20:41 which gave her a WMA grading of 84.17% - her best ever. Robert McArdle was little off the pace in 22:30 but the next two runner both set substantial PB’s and both achieved the Club Runner’s Standard of 60% for the first time ever. Finishing in close formation Naomi Jepson-Rivers (24:23) took over 30 seconds of her previous best, Vicky Ball (24:26) improved her PB by an amazing 80 seconds and Paul Jepson followed them in with a season’s best of 24:29 to earn himself a nation ranking within the top 150 in his age group nationally.
