Unusually for the club this event did not put the running
as the first priority as we paid tribute to the team of volunteers who organise
the run every week come hail or shine (but excluding winds of over 43mph)
Everyone was delighted stand on the steps of Belton House to applaud Graham and
Judith as they received their awards for being Volunteer of the Year 2017. It
was good to be able to thank the National Trust locally for being so helpful
towards the event.

Despite having so many of the club member’s acting as marshals partly due to this being a busy weekend for racing we were still able to muster 31 runners with a combined experience of 1421 parkruns between them. On a very wet morning and after a bit of a delay to applaud our hosts it was never going to be a speedy affair especially for those in fancy dress.
.
Matthew Kingston Lee was first finisher and perhaps
thankful there was no one there to push him as he had a duathlon the following
morning. First lady was GRC’s Holly Durham who did well considering the number
of dogs in close attendance. In terms of the club

championship fifth placed Rob
Howbrook opened up his lead by 0.04% and 8th placed lady Sarah High
was able to consolidate her second place in the table with a PB. The other PB
was from Emma Harrington on her 5th parkrun. Looking at the quality
GRC brought to the event across all ages they supplied four out the top five
age graded finishers (6 out of the top 10). Our two first timers, Julie and Robert Braker, brought
the total number of GRC runners at this event to 147.
