The wet weather relented just long enough for the multi
terrain Caythorpe Dash 10K to take place on Sunday 17th November,
albeit organisers were forced to make last minute changes to make safe the
course that runs along farm tracks, public footpaths and country roads.
With a modest field of just 77 participants the start went
well for Grantham Running Club’s Matt Kidd, who was challenging for the lead
from the start. He led for much of the race until just after the 9K mark when
the eventual winner Tom Hounsfield passed. Matt would go on to finish in second
place with a time of 41:43, just six seconds behind the winner.
Third overall and first female was second claim GRC runner Jenny
McBain of Alcester Running Club with an impressive time of 43:31, ninety
seconds clear of the next woman Harriet Johnson, who was fourth overall.
Next over the line for GRC and in unfamiliar territory
coming home seventh was Russell Maksymiw with a time of 47:43. Entering his first 10K was Joss Bourne, who finished in
1:13:02.
Also enjoying the mud, hills and large selection of cakes post
race were Grantham Running Club’s Rebecca Angel, 1:09:28; Henrietta McCabe,
1:12:52; Vicky Willan, 1:14:16, Gillian Cardus, 1:18:51; and Vicky Geeson,
1:18:52.
