Having been without a venue until late in the day, the
fourth and final round of the Lincolnshire Cross Country on Sunday 8th
December saw runners return to the venue of the opening race at Louth. With the
upcoming Lincolnshire Cross Country Championships also taking place at this
venue, there could be some runners who are in danger of becoming overly
familiar with undulating multiple lap course that became increasingly cut up in
places as the various races took place.
The men should have run around 9K but ended up running 10K,
thanks to running no less than five ‘large’ laps in addition to a shorter lap
at the start of the race. First of four men home for Grantham Running Club was
young Barney Stretton who continued to impress with a fine fourth place finish,
clocking 43:45 - just over two minutes behind the winner David Hunter of
Lincoln & District Runners. Barney was joined in the top ten by Joaquim
Jeronimo, who finished ninth in 45:12. Sam Jepson-Rivers came home eighteenth
in 47:07, with Chris Toon, who had run the North Midlands XC race at Heanor the
previous afternoon, finishing a very creditable 41st in 55:59. There
were 54 finishers.
There was only one GRC lady representing the club over the
4.8K course. Like Chris, Caroline Davis had run at Heanor the previous day and
ran well at Louth to finish fifteenth in 27:20. The winner was Claire Cooney of
Lincoln Wellington AC in 20:41. There were 31 finishers.
