Grantham Running Club were well represented at the 10 Mile Road Race held as part of the annual Heckington Show, it is the oldest road race in the Midlands with the first race being held in 1965. The earlier start worked well allowing most of the runners to finish before the temperature rose too high. First home for GRC was Rob Howbrook in 67 minutes and 12 seconds closely followed by Gav Meadows with a well-judged run in 68:55 to set a new PB. Nick Rossington was not far behind in 71:06 followed by Catherine Payne clocking 71:46 and picking up the first prize in her age category. Father and son Tommy and Matthew Williamson were next home with the elder outsprinting his son and clocking 72:22 just ahead of Matthew who was given 72:42. The final GRC runner was Robert McArdle in 80:52.

Notfast 10k


Notfast 10k: Newark Rugby Club

When Grantham Running Club send a team to a local race they are hoping to pick up a few prizes and the 29th Notfast 10k was no exception with Paul Durham and his daughter Penny Hodges both picking up bronze medals in the County Championship section, Catherine Payne finishing as first FV45 lady and Nick Rossington out sprinting teammate Rob Howbrook to take the prize for second in the MV50 class. On a challenging course not suited to recording personal best performances, the Grantham runners nonetheless recorded some excellent times. First home, in 16th place, was 10k specialist Ben Hodgkin in a time of 38.38.  The next GRC runner was Nick Rossington in 41.40 which placed him 31st overall, Robert Howbrook was close behind in 41.48, with Gav Meadows less than a minute adrift in 42.39.

Catherine Payne was the first GRC lady in 57th place in a time of 43.59 followed by Penny Hodges in 45:06. Next home was Robert McArdle in 46:10 with Nev Chamberlain, still suffering the effects of jet lag from his recent American adventure, managed a commendable time of 51.08.Husband and wife team Brendan and Yvonne Buckley finished in 61.37 and 64.04.
