Saturday 8th July saw Caroline and Paul Davis take part in the Canal Canter races run along the towpath of the Leeds to Liverpool canal.
As a birthday treat Paul entered the 26.2 mile event with Caroline opting for the half marathon distance.
The out and back course started and finished in Kirkstall with turn around points at Saltaire and Leeds. The predominantly flat route began on wide tarmac path but as the miles increased the surface deteriorated to become quite stony and in one section no more than a narrow muddy path.
By the 9;30 am start time the sun was shining strongly with only a gentle breeze. Out on the course the shade provided by the wooded areas was a blessing but unfortunately a little infrequent.
After a steady run Caroline crossed the finish line in 2 hours and 2 minutes with Paul completing the 26.2 miles in 3 hours and 34 minutes earning him 3rd place overall!
This is a small event but very friendly and well organised. I'm sure we will be back for another of these events.
