Stefan Latter was the only member of Grantham Running Club
to take part in the Let’s Go Round Again 5K on Sunday 17 February. With the
half marathon and full marathon races taking centre stage at the National Water
Sports Centre at Holme Pierrepoint, only 56 took part in the 5K.
Nevertheless the 5K race was a keenly contested affair. With
the opening half of the race downwind, the eventual winner Charlie Rogers of
Lougborough University (16:54) pulled well clear. Stefan was sitting
comfortably in third place at the halfway marker - the inevitable stiff headwind
on the return section proved challenging for all racing. Running strongly, Stefan
edged closer to second position and with 300 meters to go had caught the young under
17 runner Lewis Smith, only to be outsprinted to the finish line by three
seconds.
Third placed Stefan was also rewarded with a prize for
finishing first V40 runner. His time of 20:57 establishes his official PB over
the distance.
