On Sunday 24th February four members of Grantham
Running Club headed to Ferry Meadows Country Park in Peterborough to take part
in the Advanced Performance 10K Winter Run.
With each of the four races in the series taking part in a
different season, the opening ‘winter’ race had a spring like feel being held under
clear blue skies and pleasantly mild temperatures.
Beginning in the park, the race route took runners past
Lynch Lake and Gunwade Lake before running alongside the Nene Valley Railway and
then around the outskirts of Ferry Meadows Park before entering back into the
park with a lap of Lynch Lake to finish.
First home for GRC was Sam Dodwell in a time of 48:56, just under
a minute slower than his PB set on February 3rd in London. Just
behind Sam was Stuart Baty, his 49:32 less than ninety seconds outside his PB. Claire
Fritz followed in 1:09:26 and Simon Hartley in 1:11:47.
The race was won by Gordon Lee of Leicester Coritanian AC in
a time of 33:57 with Philippa Taylor of Nene Valley Harriers the winning woman
in 40:03. There were 689 finishers.
