Scott Jones and Grant Davies of Grantham Running Club headed to the Paula Radcliffe Stadium in Loughborough on Monday 10th June to take part in the second Charnwood AC Open – a four event series of open athletics track meetings that feature graded races for all age groups. Conditions on the night were a long way from ideal with heavy rain and unseasonably cold conditions.  

Both Scott and Grant doubled up over 800 and 1500 meters, with the 3¾ lap race taking place first. In the second heat Scott finished ninth out of sixteen clocking a time of 5:11.00, which was just over three seconds outside his PB. Grant followed in a quicker heat and continued with his impressive improvement over 1500 meters, taking nearly two seconds off his PB with 4:38.47 and finishing seventh in his race.

It was both runners’ first experience of an 800 meter race and so new personal bests were guaranteed. In his heat Scott claimed a podium finish and clocked 2:30.01, which currently sees him ranked eightieth on the UK Athletics rankings in the V40 age category. Grant ran a finely judged race to clock 2:14.28 in finishing fourth in his heat.

Both runners are looking forward to more track races and new distances, including 400 meters, in the forthcoming weeks.
