On Saturday 15th September 47 members of Grantham
running club travelled over to the scenic Rutland water parkrun that takes
place at Rutland Water Reservoir, this is a 5k run, jog or walk on a mixture of
flat tarmac and paths and takes you out over the reservoir and finishing back at
Normanton Church.
For those of you that are not aware of parkrun this is a
free 5k event with over 600 of these events taking place nationally ran by volunteers,
the closet to Grantham being Belton House parkrun taking place every Saturday
morning at 9am. For more information check out the parkrun UK website.
The green army was out on mass due to Rutland parkrun being
part of Grantham running clubs Grand Prix series. GRC members were running to score points using the World Masters Athletics grading system to equalise for age and sex by comparing performances to the best in the world.
Saturday's weather was slightly autumnal with a light breeze
over the water and quite reasonable running conditions, due to the course being
flat we saw a huge amount of personal bests for the club over a 5K distance
including coming first for GRC and 4th overall out of 293
parkrunners was Grant Davies 18:05, just five seconds outside gaining a ranking position. Well done Grant!
Peter's 268th and best |

In second postion was Sarah High with her best ever score of 73.98% enjoying returning to full fitness. First home for the men was Peter "parkrun" Bonner setting an all course PB in his 268th attempt and grabbing a 73.87% score. Second place for the men went to Dean Riggall with 73.39%, better known for his fast marathon time but proving he can compete at any distance. Third for the men was Robert McArdle 72.6%, closely followed by Robert Braker with a score just over 72%

Park Hotel. All said they would be returning!
