Grantham Running
Club’s Ian McBain headed to the south coast of England on Sunday 7th
October and bagged a big new personal best at the sixth Bournemouth Half
Marathon.
Part of
the Bournemouth Marathon Festival, which includes everything from a full
marathon to a one kilometre race for children aged from three to six, the
half marathon enjoys a particularly picturesque route. With several
miles running along the seafront between Bournemouth and Boscombe piers,
runners of all ages and abilities were treated to stunning coastal views
and plenty of encouragement from the watching crowds.
After a chilly start, warm sunshine and light winds provided the perfect weather conditions for running. With 3,890 people completing the course, Ian finished in a very creditable 211th place with a time of 1:31:43.
Achieving an improvement of more than six minutes on his previous personal best time for a half marathon (achieved at September’s Newton’s Fraction in Grantham), Ian was particularly pleased with his run. Speaking after the event, Ian said, “I really enjoyed everything about the Bournemouth Marathon Festival, and would thoroughly recommend it to anybody looking for a well-organised half marathon with beautiful scenery.”
