Claire new PB of 63:23 |
Grantham Running Club’s Claire Fritz took part in the
Leicester Town and Gown 10K on Sunday 17th March with 308 other
runners.
The course starts at Leicester’s Victoria Park and took in
three laps of the park and the University of Leicester. It is a fast, flat course, with plenty of
personal best opportunity.
Now in its third year, the Leicester based race is the
newest of Muscular Dystrophy UK’s Town and Gown series. The race is chip timed,
marshalled throughout and rewards finishers with a medal and goody bag. There were good facilities within the Charles
Wilson Sports Hall at the university where the Event Village was housed.
The weather on the day caused some concern with gale force
winds hitting certain areas of the course. Despite the wind Claire gained a
personal best of 1:03:23, shaving 27 seconds from her previous best effort set
at the Sleaford 10k in August 2018.
The winner was Mark Ryall of Milton Keynes AC in 00:34:10; Nora
Battermann the winning woman in 00:40:55.
