Leeds Abbey Dash

Huge PB for SJR

Sunday 24 October saw four members of Grantham Running Club take the 90-mile journey North for the Age UK Leeds Abbey 10k Dash.

Flat and perfect racing weather conditions, on the back of some hard months of training there were high hopes of some quick times on this highly popular potential personal best (PB) course. The out and back route started on the Headrow in front of the Town Hall, then after working its way out of the town centre picked up the A65 and headed to the 5k turning point at Kirkstall Abbey.

First home for the Green Army was Sam Jepson-Rivers with an outstanding performance in his favoured distance. Crossing the finish line in 37.01 with a huge personal best of 1 minute 53 seconds, the 10k training plan he has been following over the past few months has clearly paid off and is only certain to dip into the 36 minute bracket in races to come.

Second in was Aaron Smith in 38.22, another huge PB from him as he goes from strength to strength across all events.

Andrew Pask, after a hard race at Cambridge half marathon the week prior, ran a very strong season best of 40.22. His experience clearly showing with his consistent recent form.

Our only female representative for the day, Zoe Wragg, after months of hard London Marathon training, she was confident of a sub 55-minute time in her first official 10k race. She comfortably achieved this by crossing the finish line in 54.10, knocking a huge 1 minute 39 seconds off her time at the inter club 10k back in June, another fantastic achievement from her.

In a very strong field, the male race was won by Kadar Omar in 28.46 and the female was won by Jessica Piasecki in 31.19.
