Dovedale Dipper

Nick, Paul and Mark after the race

Three members of Grantham Running Club took part in the Dovedale Dipper event in the Peak District. The 27 mile route begun at Hartington, Derbyshire and followed a circular route visiting the Dove and Manifold Valleys and some Staffordshire Moorland in the White Peak District before returning to Hartington Village Hall. Runners had to climb a total elevation of 3,600ft.

There were checkpoints every 5 miles providing much needed refreshment in the roasting hot and humid conditions. The bright sunshine made for clear views across the High Peak. Paul Rushworth finished the event in 5 hours and 5 minutes followed by Nick Payne 5:37 and Mark Hillson in 5:43. Completing this event is a huge achievement in ‘normal’ conditions but even more so in the baking heat on the day.
