Representing Grantham Running
Club, Scott Jones and Joaquim Jeronimo both took part in the Leicester Chase
the Sun 10K on Thursday 9th August. The setting was the beautiful grounds of Leicestershire's
magnificent Prestwold Hall and also the former RAF runways of the second world
war Airfield, notably home to the Vickers Wellington Heavy Bombers.
The four
lap course was started by the race official with 315 athletes gracing the start
line. Scott took the early lead over the in form Joaquim for a time until he
started to feel the fast early miles. Overtaken by Joaquim, he then held his
position amongst a strong pack of seasoned club runners. Despite being slightly
out of form, Jones managed to cross the line in a respectful 42:17 finishing
the race in 18th position and 4th in his age catagory.
It was
Jeronimo who ran a smart and sleek race though not only finishing in an
impressive 10th position overall but also finishing 4th in his age catagory. He
ran a personal best time of 40:11 taking almost two minutes off of his previous
PB of 42:10.
Both
Members received medals and goody bags at the finish and were happy with their
respective outcomes. Both runners recommended this race to their club mates for
next year.
