The opening race of the 2019 Lincolnshire Cross Country
League took place in Louth on Sunday 20th October. Politely described as ‘not
the most exciting course,’ it featured a tedious drag of a hill halfway around
which had to be run twice for the ladies and four times for the men.
In the men's 8.9 km long race, Grantham Running Club was led
home by exciting young prospect Barney Stretton. In only his second outing for
the club, Barney put in an excellent performance to come home first for GRC for
the second week running and finish an excellent fourth overall. He was followed
two minutes later by tenth placed Chris Limm
er, Grant Davies (twelfth), Sam
Jepson-Rivers (23rd) and Jack Dodwell (39th).
The Men’s Vet team were represented by Barny Stretton (the
father of Barney) on his first outing for the club, who finished 35th ahead of
Chris Toon, who came home 45th. The race was won by Nicholas Martin of Caistor
Running Club. There were sixty one finishers.
With the ladies taking part in a 4.5K race, Penny Hodges was
first for GRC finishing fifth overall and third veteran, with Michelle Parczuk
finishing not far behind in ninth overall. Sarah High followed in seventeenth
with Yvonne Buckley bringing the Vet team home in 26th overall. Willow Stacey
was our sole senior lady and put in a strong performance to finish thirteenth.
The race was won by Katie Ball of Boston Triathlon Club. There were 31
finishers.
