‘If you are wanting to run your first, fastest or your most
orange 10k yet- this is the race for you!’ This is the publicity line for the eighth
running of the Newton Town and Gown 10K that took place in Cambridge on Sunday 20th
October.
The fast, flat course takes you through the centre of
Cambridge, running past King's College, running around Midsummer Common, by the
River Cam to continue round Midsummer Common to the finish line.
With perfect running conditions and wearing orange to
celebrate the Muscular Dystrophy UK charity the race supports, prolific
racer and parkrunner Caroline Davis ran superbly to clock 46:55. This was an
amazing two minute and twelve second improvement on her 10K PB set just two
weeks earlier at the Shelton Striders 10K and surely compensation for being one
of many runners who suffered with the start line cancellation of the Great
Eastern Run a week earlier.
The Cambridge Town and Gown was won by Joseph Smith in 30:00
with Georgina Schwiening of Cambridge Runners the winning woman in 34:02. There
were 2302 finishers.
